Everyday In May Challenge Final Thoughts

Well what as challenge it was! It far exceeded my expectations. Here are pictures from the month along with my final thoughts. Thanks for coming along on this challenge with me. Looking forward to the next one!

Day 31 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 31, the last day! What a day it was! I got up by 5 AM to leave at the latest by 6 AM. So I am finally ready to go and sure enough it starts pouring! So it wasn't until finally 8 AM when I was able to head out. I rode over to A1A and went up to Boynton Beach where the Pier is, but did not stop on the Pier. As I was heading back I had stopped to rest for a few minutes and the Chief of Police stopped. I got worried I did something wrong. He just wanted to know about the ElliptiGO. Ha! Phew! I was wrong. I was laughing to myself and was thinking about policemen and doughnuts and they would be too out of shape for the ElliptiGO, but of course I did not say anything. As I headed down to Boca Raton, I was hit with a rain cloud. It actually felt good with the rain coming down as it was quite hot out. Thank goodness once again for the Da Brim sporty brim keeping my head covered. I stopped once to clean the load wheels due to road grime and then kept going. As I was heading back to the house, I spotted another ElliptiGO rider on A1A which was very rare for me to see. I stopped the rider to say hello and took a picture with him. Finally I made it back to the house. Overall I felt really great! The SaltStick Plus product: http://amzn.to/1lQTXFH was a huge help to me getting through the day! I am a huge believer of the product and recommend it to anyone who is active with athletics. It will give you some serious stamina! Well it was a fantastic day! Result: 45.16

Elliptigo has put together a great May Challenge! To ride everyday. You choose a 5, 10 or 20 mile day: http://www.elliptigo.com/every-day-in-may. I have committed to do at least 10 miles every day. I will certainly do more than that, but looking forward to the challenge and if it rains, luckily I will ride indoors on my trainer!

Day 30 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 30 ride was a pretty good one although it was very humid! I did get off to a later start than I wanted as around 4 AM the rains were coming down hard! I wanted to make sure when I was ready to go, the roads were going to be somewhat dried up. So off I went. Did my loop from the Boca area to Delray Beach and back. The grounds were still fairly wet. It just makes cleaning the ElliptiGO a bit longer. I got a great shot of part of the Golf Course in Broken Sound. Well my goal was to do more then I did, but I had to get back. When I did get back, I took my jump in the pool! Good workout! One day to go and then it's recovery time for me :) Result: 20.30

Day 29 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 29 ride was a an interesting one. The weather on the radar looked very questionable. It appeared that the rain clouds had passed but rain could be coming. The ride started out cloudy and very humid. As I made it over to A1A, I noticed the ground was pretty wet, so I must have just missed the rain. When I got to A1A I started up  to Delray Beach and as I got closer, I noticed lightning, so I thought I better head back toward Boca. On the way going inland the clouds started getting dark and there was a beautiful rainbow. I took a picture and got under a tree as the rain got stronger. The rain had appeared to stop, so I started going again. Oh boy the sky opened up and I pulled under covering until the rain stopped. I got another great rainbow shot. Finally the rain stopped and headed back. I was fairly wet which cooled me down and noticed my top was drying quickly. Got to love high quality compression apparel. When I got back I took my wet clothing off and jumped in the pool :). I then cleaned my ElliptiGO as it was quite dirty from the sand. Overall it was a pretty good ride. My body was fairly tired at times, but the SaltSticks really helped. 2 days to go! Woo Hoo!  Result: 26 miles

Day 28 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 28 ride was a nice one. It was a bit humid, but there was a slight breeze. It helped getting out a little earlier although toward the end of the ride, the sun was out and I was starting to feel that heat kicking in. I rode along A1A. It was rather quiet out there which is nice as I had to the road to myself :). Today was the first day I tried SaltSticks as they were highly recommended. I took one 20 minutes into my ride and within a few minutes, I noticed a great increase in energy and my legs were feeling better. I look forward to continue taking the product and see how much they help my rides. When I got home, I jumped right into the pool. AHHH!!!! All in all, a great ride! Result: 23.17

Day 27 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 27 ride was a very humid one! The sun was not much of a factor on today's ride as the clouds were covering the sun. Phew! Along my ride I came up to an intersection and almost witnessed a fender bender as a driver slammed on his brakes as he was looking down at his phone. I just shook my head. People just don't get it. Overall my body felt pretty good. I paced myself well so I would not tire out. When I got back I jumped in the pool! AHHH! Result: 21.10 miles.

Day 26 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 26 ride (Memorial Day) was dedicated to all those that are currently or have served in the Armed Forces.I did start a little later which caused me to ride is some fairly warm and humid weather. Thank goodness for my Da Brim Rezzo visor (http://www.dabrim.com/html/products/cycling/rezzo.htm). It helped keep my face covered from the sun. What a great product that I am really appreciating with this heat! I ended up riding through Delray Beach up to the Pier (Northern Boynton Beach) where there were several people fishing. I love stopping there when I ride up there. Very peaceful. On the way back I had a bit of pain on my left foot, but continued on. I gather with the amount of riding I have been doing my body is really feeling it. I was going to ride down to center of Boca Raton, but I was almost out of water and my body was pushing it's limits for the day. My goal was to do 40 miles today and that's what I was able to accomplish. When I got back, I immediately took my clothing off and jumped in the pool. Boy that felt great. I took at 20 minute power nap and I was feeling better. Result: 40.10 miles.

Day 25 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 25 ended up being a great ride. After going on a great ride yesterday and playing golf, I went to bed feeling pretty sore, so I figured it would be a short ride today. Boy I was wrong. The day started off fairly overcast. With no winds and high humidity, I was happy about that. The sun did come out eventually. I headed over to ride along A1A and was planning to ride down into Boca, but decided at the last minute to ride up to Dalray Beach and then back down to Boca Raton. I love riding by the restaurants as people are sitting there and watching cyclists go by while they are eating. It never fails, people just look in amazement when I ride by. I feel like I am some sort of super star. HA! On the way down to Boca, I stopped to take a picture by a flag as I want to make sure to post a picture thanking all those sacrificing their lives for us being Memorial Day.  After the picture I did not stop other than for lights. I was amazed how great I was feeling. I felt like I could have gone another 35 miles, but I realized I need to save the energy to finish out the challenge strong. Great ride today! Result: 35.1 miles.

A few kudos on a some products for today's ride: I wore my Da Brim Camo (www.dabrim.com) for the first time. It really helped my face to keep cool when the sun did come out. It is great that I got protection all around my head.

The second product, my Cat-Ears:https://amzn.to/3yMMBjL made my ride so enjoyable as the reduction of wind noise in my ears is incredible. It allows me to really enjoy my rides that much more. I highly recommend them. I am currently wearing the pro version.  Another option is: Wind-Blox which offers a less fuzzy version depending on your preference.

Lastly, my CW-X compression top and shorts are amazing (http://gocentral.freeforums.org/cw-x-ventilator-long-and-short-sleeve-shirt-and-shorts-t19.html). What a difference it makes vs. a dri-fit type shirt. It reduces the amount of sweat far greater. I highly recommend investing in high quality compression apparel. You will be happy you did!

Day 24 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 24 ride was a nice one. Not a cloud in the sky. Simply beautiful out. I did sleep a little later, but not too late as it is suppose to get to about 90 degrees. I stopped by the end of the runway at Boca Raton Airport for a quick picture before heading over to ride along the ocean. The breeze was not much of a factor until I started going back inland. My legs were really feeling it good today. On the way back, I took a turn onto a trail near a park where people walk, run and bike. As I was passing a runner, he was applauding me. Pretty cool to be applauded, but the ElliptiGO is an amazing bike and people are simply amazed by it. The last 1/2 a mile was a quick sprint as I was listening to music and it got me fired up. I got up to about 24 MPH. Love it! Great workout today! Result: 21.10 miles.

Day 23 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 23 was a beautiful morning! Not a cloud in the sky. Simply awesome! Winds were not a factor most of the ride, but got a little breezy at the end of my Ride. The sunrise was fantastic. I just love it. Today's ride took my up to Delray Beach and back. Nice ride. Luckily there is a fair amount of shade so it allows me to stay cooler and reduce the amount of riding in the sun even though it was early in the morning. When I got back, I cleaned my Elliptigo and sat by the pool and the next thing you know, I fell asleep. I was simply very tired. This has been a great challenge thus far. Great workout today! Result: 25.21 miles.

Day 22 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 22 was a nice morning. Finally winds died down, so it made it for an enjoyable ride although my body is pretty tired as I have been going 25 straight days now. I was hoping to see a great sunrise, but the cloud cover kept the sun hidden. It was still great to get up early and get my workout in before it gets too hot. Result: 20.2 miles.

Day 21 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 20 was a shorter ride to give my legs a little bit of a break. I also slept a little later this morning, so no seeing the sunrise. My ride consisted of street riding. Nothing overly exciting, but a good short workout. Result: 15.02 miles.

Day 20 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 20 was a nice morning. I made sure to get up extra early so I can get to the ocean nice and early and see the sun over the horizon. I found my new favorite spot to get a great view of the sunrise. On the way back I saw a neighbor with a couple of parrots on her shoulder so I stopped. They are a Brazilian Parrot. Beautiful. She put one of them on my shoulder. The Parrot was very friendly and I was able to pet it without any issues. While the winds continue to be fairly strong, it was a great workout even though my legs were a bit tired! Result: 20.25 miles.

Day 19 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 19 was a nice morning, but the winds are still pretty strong! I rode down to A1A to enjoy the Ocean view. Going south I had the winds with me so I was able to ride at a brisk pace. Going back was a bit tough riding into the winds. Overall, a great workout! Result: 20.20 miles.

Day 18 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 18 was a windy one! I thought yesterday was suppose to be the windy day. Well I pushed on through regardless. I decided to venture over to A1A and ride along the coast which is my favorite place to ride. On the way there, I stopped by the FAU Owls and their stadium. Nice stadium! On the way back, I stopped in the Spanish River Park in Boca Raton and found this great tunnel that leads to the beach. It was beautiful when I got through. I enjoyed sitting there for a few minutes looking out into the ocean. On the way back, I found additional roads to ride along as I was enjoying being out and about regardless of the winds. Overall, a great workout! Result: 25.44 miles.

Day 17 - Every Day In May Challenge

Day 17 was a beautiful morning for a ride. It was in the 60's and very low humidity if at all. The ride started out great, barely a breeze. I got to wear the Cat-Ears for the first time which helped minimize wind noise in my ear. I also got to wear my new Da Brim Rezzo visor. The skulls at least adds character to the visor. The wind did pic up quite a bit and the last 8 miles were pretty tough. On the way back, I did get a couple of ladies who recorded me riding on the ElliptiGO. I gave them my email address to email me the video. Pretty cool to see it. All in all, a good ride. Result: 30.12 miles.

Day 16 - Everyday In May Challenge - Happy Bike To Work Day

Day 16 was another humid ride (94%)! Good sweaty workout. There was quite a bit of cloud cover along with a breeze, so it keep the ride a bit more manageable. More than half way done for the month! Overall all good workout!  Result: 16.22 miles.

Happy bike to work day!

Day 15 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 15 was a very humid ride! We had very heavy rains over night and we are suppose to have rain on and off today. Luckily it did not rain during my ride until I got to mile 11. I was hoping to get 15 miles in, but the rain came down pretty hard. I was pretty close to home, so I was able to get in before I got soaked. Result: 11.21 miles.

Day 14 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 14 almost did not happen and I was doing work on my Elliptigo, changing out my load wheels and ran into problems removing them. Luckily I was able to after several hours. The morning started out looking like it was going to be a nice morning and then saw the radar. Sure enough it rained for a little bit and then cleared up for a little while so I took advantage and got my ride in. Phew! Result: 15.08 miles.

Day 13 - Everyday In May Challenge

Day 12 was a muggy wet one! I woke up to rain and figured that I would ride this evening, but looking at the radar, it was clearing up, so I went out. It was a bit windy, but push on through. It is amazing how sandy the road gets and sticks to the Elliptigo when wet. Good workout non the less. Result: 14.46 miles.
